Many of you have seen the initial press release concerning A Leather Day of Caring, or have been with us in years past, producing or being a part of a LDOC event. Thank you for returning, and for wanting to make a difference in the world around us.
A Leather Day of Caring was the child of Ms. Jill Carter, President of the World Leather Organization, now the Family Hope Alliance, Inc., and Karen McGee, Ms World Leather 2002. The reason for this event is to raise awareness and unite the Leather Community across the world if only for one day. This is not about raising funds, although money always helps. It is about leather men and women from all around the world pausing for one day, one hour, to care.
Anyone can participate in A Leather Day of Caring, be it an individual, a family, a club, a business, an organization or an event. Being a titleholder is NOT required! Please approach your group/organization to participate in this celebration of life and leather spirit. And please, if you're not a part of a group, this is your day to shine, as ONE person can change history. Help us to show the world that the Leather Community is strong and well and does care about the world around us!
We want to help spread the word of your event and help in whatever way possible. Individual events WILL be posted here and on the Ms World Leather website. Please send all releases to Pandora at MsWL2004@aol.com.

The Family Hope Alliance, Inc., including all of the Ms World Leathers, along with countless leather people across the globe will celebrate the fourth annual Leather Day of Caring Worldwide. It is a pansexual event of outreach, advocacy and celebration of our generosity as a community.
Too many of us live our lives blind, going day-to-day, without stopping to figure out what we can do in our own communities to help our neighbors. We are a passionate community, and that is evident in the way we carry ourselves, in our speech and in our deeds. It's time to take that passion to the streets, giving to those who have needs greater than ours, and to show the rest of the world the heart that lies within each and every one of us. This is one day where we may join together as Leather Folk, in our own towns, cities and communities and make a difference across the globe, and where we may work as one for the good of many. There is much an individual can do to help. No matter what your skills, interests, or resources, there are ways you can make a difference for the men, women, and children who are impacted by all of our varied causes.

Traditionally, A Leather Day of Caring has kicked off on Easter Weekend. But, anyone can show they care about the world around them on "a special day", so it doesn't just have to be on Easter weekend. In fact, for 2006, I've chosen to recognize our Philadelphia community doing an awareness fundraiser/poker party on March 12 for an animal rescue as our LDOC event.
I'd be happy to help talk with you about ideas for how to make a difference, pick a cause, or get your message out to the masses. And, any of the other Ms Worlds can help, as well as the Family Hope Alliance. I can be reached via email at MsWL2004@aol.com, and the rest of the organization emails can be found at our website, Family Hope Alliance, Inc.
Of course, I'd love to say MY beneficiary for Ms World Leather 2004, the Coalition on Donation (www.donatelife.net), but that would be very greedy! Anyone can benefit from a Leather Day of Caring. Charitable organizations, GLBT-specific groups, or leather causes like the ILSb Katrina Fund or Dandelion Dog Rescue (IMsL 87 Judy Tallwing). And this is not just about money. Perhaps there is a local food pantry or women's shelter that might need support of non-financial contributions, or you could organize a cell phone drive for the Wireless Foundation's Call to Protect program. Please contact Pandora with questions concerning fundraising, and by all means, with a total of your efforts so that it can become a part of the 4th Annual Leather Day of Caring success story!
Thank your local community for their help, especially any businesses, clubs or organizations who made your event possible. Next, a press release to your local GLBT paper and to the Leather Journal helps document your success! Send off your monies raised to your chosen charity. Lastly, please contact Pandora (MsWL2004@aol.com) with a rundown of the event, the people/groups involved, what was done, what money was raised and where the money went. A snail mail address would be helpful for recognition purposes!
